Katara is calm like water and Aang is forever on the move like air. Just like Aang helps Katara lighten up, Katara also calms Aang down when he is about to do something rash. Every time Aang went into the Avatar state in a rage, Katara was the only one who could calm him down. They both bring out the best in each other. What one person lacks, the other fulfills. Even though the age gap in both the couples is the same with Aang being two years younger than Katara and Zuko being two years older , the emotional maturity between them is miles apart.
Zuko and Katara have troubled pasts, and have had to grow up way beyond their years. Both also lost their mothers due to the Fire Nation. Aang is still a child and in most cases, Katara has to mother him. There is no denying that Aang truly loved Katara.
When Zuko finally joins the Gaang, everyone slowly warms up to him except Katara. Of course, she had every right to be mad at him, seeing how he had betrayed her the last time she trusted him. She threatened him, was mean to him, and would often snap at him. But instead of getting annoyed, not caring, or forcing her to trust him, Zuko gave her space. He actually listened to what she was saying when she was yelling at him.
He figured out the real cause behind her pain which he later helped her with. Zuko dealt with her in a mature fashion, something that Aang often lacked. In Book One of the series, the Gaang comes across a village with a fortuneteller called Aunt Wu who tells Katara that her future holds "a great romance" with a "powerful bender.
When it becomes obvious that Aunt Wu's fortunes aren't really accurate, Katara still thinks back on Wu's fortune for her when she's reminded of how powerful Aang is, sparking hope for Kataang shippers. As shown in The Legend of Korra , genetics seem to play a part in determining what kind of bender a couple's children may become.
Aang, an airbender, and Katara, a waterbender, had three children: Bumi, an initial non-bender, Kya, a waterbender, and Tenzin, an airbender. Tenzin and Pema then have four children who all became airbenders, and it's implied that it's because Pema is a non-bender. With this in mind, it may have been best for the air nation if Katara had been with Zuko.
While their relationship was rocky and immature at times in the show, Mai and Zuko had an understanding and compatibility between them , especially when it came to the more gloomy parts of their personalities. While Zuko and Mai had broken up a few times, the creators said that they did in fact reconcile later on while keeping mum about who was the mother of Zuko's daughter, Izumi.
However, based on similarities in their appearance, it's not a stretch to imagine that Izumi's mother was Mai. During the series, Aang is 12 years old while Katara is Now, a two year age gap is really nothing when in adulthood.
So, once these two got a little older this wouldn't seem weird at all. However, when watching the series, the age gap did seem noticeable. Aang was still practically a child while Katara was a teenager. This made for a noticeable maturity difference that could seem a little weird at times.
It often felt that Aang was crushing on the older Katara while Katara saw him more as a friend or brother. While the maturity levels between Aang and Katara might have been different during the series, there's no denying that these two were close friends. Katara was the first person to support Aang and help him on his quest to save the world from the Fire Nation.
Some of the best relationships start as deep friendships, so this dynamic is good evidence for a romantic relationship. Zuko and Katara have personalities that could clash at times. There doesn't need to be a war, we can just make up for the mean comments. We can like what we want, but we don't have to force others to like what you want too.
My own friends fight over it. Please, just lets stop fighting over unnecessary reasons. Wow, I feel like Aang with all of this peace stuff. I agree. Fans should be able to ship who they want without being attacked.
If you want to have a friendly debate keyword, friendly of why you favor one ship over another, that's ok, but keep it civil and respectful. Fan-wars just ruin things for everyone. To Ice-Jin - Thank you for understanding. I have massive respect. I had to make a new account, because my old one was hacked.
