The Office of the Dean of Students fosters an inclusive environment that encourages holistic student engagement, development, and success inside and outside of the classroom.

I have been a proud member of the Hofstra University community since These multi-faceted job experiences have afforded me a deeper understanding of meeting the various academic and personal needs of the students here at Hofstra. As a graduate of Hofstra and the mother of 3 Hofstra graduates, I am also in the unique position of being able to speak from personal experience about Hofstra and its vibrant, progressive student and administrative communities.
In addition to my 4 wonderful children, I am married to my husband Kevin. I enjoy attending concerts and museum exhibitions in my spare time.
I am also a dedicated swimmer and can be found most early mornings at the Hofstra Swim Center. Go Pride! Van-Ess Grant has worked in higher education for more than fifteen years. As dean, my most important goal is to foster a spirit of intentionality about the educational experience we provide. I want our students to consider the programs, courses, and experiences we offer, reflect on their own interests and passions, and purposefully embark on the learning opportunities that will best prepare them for life after college.
This means not just the first job out of college, but a lifelong career trajectory which may include a postgraduate degree and, just as importantly, a meaningful and fulfilling life. I attend events on campus and hope that you will say hello and share your impressions and aspirations with me so I can learn more about your personal and professional ambitions.
