When is zach sobiech funeral

Jump to navigation. While Laura Sobiech had many dreams for her future, she never aspired to become an author, inspirational speaker and childhood cancer advocate. Six years ago, she was happily raising four children with her husband Rob and leading an active family life in the St. Croix Valley. Life was good. For the Sobiechs, their bend in the road occurred when their son Zach was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, at age But to witness it, she says, was extraordinary.

He was in his element while singing to a sold-out, cheering crowd. It was urgent. He went out like a comet blazing its trail across the sky. The week before school started, he was still considering what to do with his remaining time. Despite the challenges, she and Rob supported Zach, because earning a diploma was on his list of things to accomplish in life, and he wanted to spend his final days with the people who were most important to him.

SAHS became a sanctuary. Although he passed away a few weeks before graduation, Zach was awarded his diploma earlier that spring and remembered by the Class of at their graduation ceremony.

A Circle of Friends. In addition to SAHS as a whole, the Sobiechs are grateful for a small circle of friends who embraced their son. He truly cared for what people had to say; he really listened. He was always so confident that there was more than life as we knew it, that there was a God and that He had great plans in mind for us. That strong faith … was visible in him, and it carried him through all the way to the end. He loved playing pranks and saying outrageous things that came from left field.

He was a very silly boy. Life gave my friend Zach a lot — but life gave us Zach, and we can always be thankful for that. In real life, Zach played a concert at the Varsity Theater, a real music venue in Minneapolis. His family also threw him a party a few months before his death. Finally, Zach was able to take Amy to prom in May , just weeks before he passed away.

The concert we see in the movie is a combination of all three of those events. Director Justin Baldoni said the purpose of this scene was to show that Zach got to see how many people he touched with his music before he died. The real Laura Sobiech said that nobody was expecting a miracle, but the trip was a strong bonding experience for her family. We all came out of it feeling that way… we knew something happened there. The real Sammy Brown has shared that she and Zach grew up together, and there was a moment in real life where Zach found out that she had a crush on him.

Today, the real Sammy and Amy remain close friends. We asked Sammy to tell us the stories behind the songs she and Zach wrote together — read her answers here.

No, Zach and Amy never broke up in real life.
